Since opening in Swansea two years ago, one of CETMA Swansea’s most important services has been to provide people in need of emergency food support with 24-Hour Food Packs.
The packs contain enough food to last a person around 24 hours and are available to anyone who is struggling with the Cost of Living and cannot afford food. These packs are particularly useful for people struggling with their accommodation or need a short-term solution for food until they can get to a Foodbank and have a more long-term Food Parcel. The packs are created in a way that only hot water is necessary to prepare some of the items.
Previously, these packs have been entirely self-funded by CETMA, and also by funding received from Swansea County Council, however, last few weeks, we have experienced an unprecedented surge in demand for these packs and CETMA is struggling to cope with the demand.
CETMA Swansea Office Manager, Elian Williams said: “The demand recently for Food Packs is higher than it has ever been in my time in Swansea.”
“We’re glad that so many people are contacting us for support, but staying on top of the demand is proving to be a challenge.”
The specific items/flavors of item per food pack may vary slightly, but one of our standard food-packs includes:
- Bottled Water
- Pot Noodle
- Oats
- Fruit Pot
- 3×1 Coffee Sachets
- Chocolate Bar
- Biscuit
- Crisps
- Tinned Meat or Fish (e.g. Corned Beef, Tuna Chunks)
Elian Williams also added:
“If the community would like to donate items or money towards creating the food packs, they would be more than welcome and of course anything would be greatly appreciated” he also stated.
CETMA Swansea greatly appreciates any contributions made towards the creation of food-packs. Anyone who wishes to do so can either donate to CETMA directly towards the cost of a food-pack, or they can look at CETMA Swansea’s Amazon Wishlist and contribute any of the items listed.
