ELECTRICAL SAFETY FIRST AGAIN THIS WINTER

CETMA are once again promoting Electrical Safety during the winter thanks to funding from Electrical Safety First.

The Community Electrical Safety (CES) project is funded by a grant from the Electrical Safety Fund, a major annual scheme which helps those most vulnerable to electrical injuries in their homes.

CES will see CETMA working in the community face to face with people in suffering from the cost of living crisis and other social issues  to provide much needed electrical safety support and awareness.

Jonathan Williams, CETMA MD said:  “We’ll be working with local repair café’s, community hubs and community groups to PAT test items being brought in and provide electrical safety awareness raising.”

“Our Centres in Kidwelly, Llanelli, and Swansea will become places where members of the public can bring in electrical items which will be PAT tested free of charge and each person that brings in an item will receive information on electrical safety”

“Christmas is a struggle for some and the temptation is to look for cheaper alternatives, however, cheaper electricals can become a matter of life or death.”

Run by the national campaigning charity Electrical Safety First, the fund provides £500,000 to support more than 100 community projects around the UK which aim to reduce domestic electrical risks. Around half of all domestic fires in the UK are caused by electricity, with most of those arising from electrical products.

Samuel Terry, Policy and Research Manager at Electrical Safety First, said: “Electrical safety risks have been exacerbated in recent years by several wider factors, including the cost-of-living crisis, rocketing inflation, and rising energy prices.”

“We are delighted to be funding so many projects which aim to keep people safe in their homes by tackling risks associated with electrical products, increasing public awareness of electrical safety, and promoting positive behaviour change.”
