Carmarthenshire Wildlife Walks

This is where you can find information on our Wildlife walks. We aim to offer walks suitable for everyone regardless of ability. We grade our walks from levels 1 to 5. Hopefully, we’ll have a level that suits you.

Our walks are fully risk assessed and walk leaders have been trained by Walking Well Carmarthenshire.

There will always be enough walk leaders on our walks to meet the number of people attending and our volunteers will have risk assessed the walk. Our walk leaders will also receive ongoing training in First Aid and other subjects.

You can register with us on the day of your first walk or alternatively; email Trixie ( for the forms to be emailed to you so that you can print, fill in and sign them and then hand them in at your first walk with us.
Join us on a walk and rest assured that you’ll be in safe hands.

Walk Details

Level 3/4 Walk due to terrain.

We will meet at Carmel Hall on the A476, (SN 58751 16406) which is approximately half way between Crosshands and Llandeilo, on the left-hand side of the road. SA14 7TL

We will all hold hands and cross the road to enter the land previously managed by The Grasslands Trust. It is a fabulous landscape to explore. It has sprawling grasslands, ancient woodlands, lime kilns, disused quarries and wildflower meadows. It has several rare species of plants but is more noted for having several sightings of a very rare bee, the Brown-banded carder bee (Bombus humilis).  You can walk as much or as little as you like. It is an area that lends itself to photography with dramatic scenery and a plethora of wonderful flora. We look forward to sharing this magical place with you.

Level 2 Walk (Not suitable for prams/wheelchairs)
Approx 2 mile Walk

Meet in park car park by the tennis courts. SA4 8LG

This is a beautiful walk through mature woodland, marsh & grassland. Surveys have identified 47 different species of trees, 31 species of birds and 79 different invertebrates!
We will detour to Llandeilo TalyBont cemetery whilst walking at a leisurely pace allowing you time to take in the lovely scenery and to look out for wildlife.
